Laura Slater is a multidisciplinary textile
designer working across printed, constructed and embroidered textiles for
textile solutions for the body or space (fashion or interiors). She has
been developing her practice since completing her MA in Mixed Media
Textiles at The Royal College of Art.
Her work is about the use of the hand created
specifically through drawing concepts and colour into the making process.
She embrace the use of traditional textile techniques
and her work aims to challenge the reinvention and reinterpretation of
their presence within contemporary design and bespoke outcomes.
This design collection evolved from the development of
exploring the use of architectural qualities of line and linear drawing
concepts and the interaction of colour and pattern.
Working with a selected colourway and the idea of evolving
random linear compositions through folding development, I felt as though this
collection has lent itself to bespoke handtufting rug design applications.
