YORKSHIRE ART LOOP EXHIBITION

The wonderful collaborative art project Yorkshire Art Loop. The finale, showcasing the works of all 30+ artists who participated was launched at Pop Up Art Space in Bradford.
This exhibition is the responses in sequence to the Ian McMillan poem ‘Apple Dream’ written for the project – based on the idea of Chinese whispers the 30+ pieces were created in a response to the previous artist work of art produced over 7 months.

The exhibition was held at the Pop Up art space, Centenary Sq., Bradford in 2011.

ADELE JACKSON - ANTARCTIC INSPIRED RUG

I recently collaborated with artist Adele Jackson to produce a bespoke rug for her living room.
Adele has a passion for Antarctic natural history and she chose the breathtaking land and seascapes as the starting point for creating the rug design.

To make the experience more personal I invited Adele to the studio where she drew out her final design on the rug canvas before I tufted it.

Using different thicknesses of yarns and various linen, silk and viscose mixes created different textures and visual qualities in the rug. The silk gave a shimmering ice-like effect whilst the thick felted black yarn give a tumultuous feel to echo the turbulent waters of the ocean.

I gave Adele creative direction in terms knowing the qualities of different yarns and advising on final yarn combination choices.

The finished rug depicts the skyline of Vinson Massif, the largest mountain in Antarctica, with the dark depths of the Southern Ocean in the foreground.

UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD - BREAK OUT AREA RUG

I was recently approached to create a custom made rug to be fitted into this break out area for students at University of Huddersfield , Canal Side West Campus, West Yorkshire, UK.

The stone floor in this converted mill was listed and therefore could not be damaged or any adhesives used.

The area needed to be templated to allow us to have a physical record of the area as no accurate plans existed of the seating and podium.

Each colour was custom dyed to match a set of colours that was chosen for the laminate treatments to be used in the interior.

The start of the semi circular rug being made in the studio in Mirfield.

The fitted rug was made slightly oversized to allow for it to be fitted around the seating area.

The front leading edges were "Taped and Turned" and slightly chamfered to prevent them being a trip hazard in this high traffic reception area.

The finished rug echoed the newly fitted circular lighting as well as the new interior colour scheme.
